Last week (Holy week) Turkish Armenian society visited their churches and celebrated easter in Istanbul. Photographs were taken on Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday.
Holy Thursday is the celebration of the Last Supper and the establishment of the sacrament of Holy Communion. That evening, with great ceremony, the Washing of the Foot ritual takes place. This ritual, reflecting Christ's actions depicted in the Holy Gospels, symbolizes humility.
Holy Week culminated on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011. Easter is the central holy day of the Christian calendar, and commemorates the discovery of Christ's empty tomb and the news of his glorious resurrection.
